God Bless America

"God Bless America!" This is what a fan of Jazzphardic said last night at Miqt Pub when I told him that I was from the USA. He was not the first that was happy to know that. The people in Prishtina treated me with special status because of my birth nationality. They have a monument of President Clinton on the main road from the airport into the city. You can't miss it. This statue was built in his honor for speaking there and supporting the independence of the Kosovars. Despite what you think about the USA and its current administration, the people of Kosovo love "Americans." They listen to hip-hop and rap. Last night was the first time that Jazz was played at MIQT pub in Pristina. The owner wanted to take a risk and try it out. The people were so engaged in our music, whistling, clapping, and singing the lyrics to the Balkan melodies that they recognized. I was told that for Kosovars, Jazz was music for melancholy, but after our show, they were able to understand how the Jazz language penetrates the soul in different ways. God bless America for Jazz. Viva Jazzphardic!!!
